Philly Renaissance!!
Showcasing 5 Black artists either from or currently living in Philadelphia, performing historic pieces from literary legends of Philadelphia like Paul Robeson, Francis E.W Harper and Mae V Cowdery accompanied by a jazz band.
This year’s classic slam is more focused on the history of Philadelphia. We will ask poets to perform/create pieces that respond to where they find themselves in life at the moment, what is going on in their community whether that has to do with social unrest, discussion about gentrification of neighborhoods or a favorite spot in philly to hang out with their family and loved ones.
“It is powerful to see how far you’ve come as a community and to imagine, dream and hope for all that we will continue accomplishing as we live, laugh, love, dance, sing and continue to thrive for years and years to come”
We will feature the artwork of PAC's Artist-in-Residence Jihan A Thomas showcasing her work, including art especially created for PAC's recent production of WINE IN THE WILDERNESS.
